On this particular visit I was able to study 'The Summer Houses' in Hyde Park which was created by artist Bjarke Ingels who is a Danish architect. Ingles has won a vast amount of architectural awards including the AIA National Architecture Honor Award in 2015. His work was extremely relevant in terms of the ideology of Utopia due to his large scale, unusual and extremely abstract creations.

When I looked at the sculptures from up close the sculptures reminded me of organic matter due to the shapes, contours and patterns. This created a new perception for me as I began to see that the artists may have taken the concept of everyday life and matter and turned it into art work. While observing the sculptures I made a number of drawings and sketches, some of which were hyperrealistic and some showing my personal perception of the meaning of the pieces. This allowed me to explore how I could take elements of Ingels' work and use it as inspiration when working towards my idea of Utopia.
After this I visited the V&A to see an exhibition of Ove Arup, who was considered a highly influencial engineer in the 20th century. To me personally, the gallery felt like an insight into Arup's thoughts and ideas as it involved numerous sketches, representing his intricate thought processes when working towards a final product.
For me, laying all of your thoughts down as they come is a brilliant way to work towards a well rounded final design/product (in my case my own idea of Utopia). As Arup built some of the most significant buildings to date and to me he represents someone who has physically built their own utopia or ideal world from scratch.
